Virendar Sehwag changes his surname to 'Sharma'

27, Nov 2013 By Vinayak-Nadkarni

Virender Sehwag, India’s ex-explosive batsman has decided to change his surname to Sharma. After BCCI announced the team to SA tour, Viru spoke to our correspondents and expressed his future plans.

Virender Sehwag
Virender Sharma!!!

‘Shakespeare is wrong – everything is in the name.’ Viru said. He was hurt after he was discarded by the section panel where as Ishant Sharma got the ticket to SA tour. Visibly stressed dashing opener said – ‘I had done everything to win selector’s confidence. I even batted in the middle order in domestic games, made sure I score no centuries in last 2 years similar to Sachin paaji, so that I can take his place when he retires.’

Virendar Sehwag is the only Indian batsman to score triple century and he was dropped during home series against England last year. In-spite of Ishant Sharma’s poor performances in the previous series, he was yet again selected for the SA tour.

‘If you look at the history, Rohit has got more chances than anyone. Now Ishant tried so hard to end his career against Aussies but still he is in the team. So either I have to become a bowler or change my surname to Sharma.’ Definitely Viru believes that ‘Sharma’ stands for luck. If Virender Sharma earns a call back to Indian team then soon we might see other stalwarts changing their names as well such as Gautam Sharma, Harbhajan Sharma etc.

However, after Virender Sharma announced this, Vinod Kambli was reportedly hurt. ‘If at all this magical ‘Sharma technology’ was available at my time, I would have been a legend as well, however it’s not too late.’ He said. We have to wait and see, if this new ploy by Viru will help him to make a comeback.
