Dubai: Ishant Sharma, India’s most loved cricketer, after Rohit Sharma, added yet another feather to his cap by bagging the “Most Consistent Player Award” from BCCI.
BCCI in its press release said that Ishant Sharma has been given this award as a mark of his consistent performance over the years.
“Fame and money can change anyone but not Ishant Sharma. He has been consistently giving runs, be it for India or for his IPL team Hyderabad. Consistency is what we expect from players and Ishant Sharma constantly delivers that”, said Sunil Gavaskar while announcing the awards.
He also added that players like Rohit Sharma should learn from Ishant. “Rohit is normally consistent. However last year has been a black mark in his career. I sincerely hope that he would come back to his usual self and score only for Mumbai Indians as he has always been”.
Sources say that there was a tough competition between Nehra & Ishant Sharma for the award. However after yesterday’s performance against Chennai Super Kings, Ishant has nailed the deal.
Ishant playing his first match of IPL 2014 was consistent in giving away fours and sixes. He bowled in the right areas where the batsman can hit and was batsman friendly at his best.
When asked about his two accidental wickets,”Look, Raina & Jadeja got out deliberately. I didn’t get them out. I promise. They wanted the award to go to Nehra, their teammate. But my record has been phenomenal and one or two accidental wickets will not harm my prospects. See God is great,” said Ishant in his acceptance speech.
