There has been a huge furore over Dale Steyn being left out of the initial squad of Sunrisers Hyderabad for 3 out of 4 games this tournament. David Warner openly expressed that Trent Boult would continue to be his first choice seamier. Dale didn’t really complain but his statement “Any cricketer would be happy on the field rather than sitting on the sidelines” had more meaning to it than Navjot Singh Sidhu’s lifetime of random commentary statements. However, the Sunrisers management have come up with a brilliant solution to tackle this issue- Ravi Bopara. No, they aren’t dropping him.
The team management have appealed to the IPL association to allow them to not include Ravi Bopara (born as Ravinder Singh Bopara) in the overseas quota of 4 players since he belongs to the Indian origin. This would allow them to play David Warner, Eoin Morgan, Dale Steyn and Trent Boult as the 4 overseas players with Ravi Bopara playing as a domestic Indian player.
The BCCI is likely to accept their proposal based on only one condition – This rule will apply to all teams. We don’t know about other teams but Delhi Daredevils are sure to not accept it – for obvious Imranic reasons.
