We are strongly against dynastic succession, unless the heirs join our party, says AAP

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today attacked political opponents for their alleged double standards and appealed to people to overthrow all dynastic political outfits.

Addressing the party’s volunteer meet here in Delhi, AAP National Executive member Yogendra Yadav welcomed Rajmohan Gandhi and Adarsh Shastri into the party and immediately offered them tickets for the Lok Sabha elections.

“Rahul Gandhi is not even a real Gandhi, yet he is beneficiary of four generations of dynasty. We are totally opposed to him.”

“However, Rajmohanji is Gandhiji’s grandson and true heir. There is no dynastic succession in his case because Gandhiji never held elected office,” he said, biting his lip.

“In fact we had initially asked Rajmohan ji to use his maternal grandfather’s name instead of Gandhiji’s name to avoid dynasty links, but it turns out that his mother’s father was Rajaji, who had led Congress and had even been India’s second Head of State, so that was even worse,” he sheepishly added.

Asked about Adarsh Shastri, who is former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri’s grandson, Yadav was unfazed.  “This is also a totally different situation.  He may be a Congress dynasty heir, but he is now contesting from AAP so that’s OK.  If Rahul Gandhi were to join AAP then we would be OK with him running for Lok Sabha also.”

“We are only opposed to dynastic succession if the candidates are not contesting on AAP tickets,” he clarified.
