The Union Minister for Human Resource Development Mrs. Smriti Irani has today taken admission in the Delhi University under a special MHRD quota created for her.
Mrs. Irani had declared in her affidavit for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections that she is a high school graduate and completed Part 1 of BCom in the School of Open Learning under Delhi University. Under the special arrangements Mrs. Irani will be allowed to continue the remaining part of the degree and she need not start afresh.
“It was pointed out to us that our HRD minister does not have a college degree,” a government spokesperson said on condition of anonymity, “We decided to ask her to complete her education before the opposition detects this paradox.”
Defending the controversial special exception made for Mrs. Irani a BJP leader said, “She could have taken admission in any of the top colleges in DU but chose to do a correspondence course. And it is not special for her. Any minister who wishes to further his or her education can avail of this quota.”
