Owing to peer pressure, Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) has declared Mr Raghuram Rajan as PM candidate. This sudden development has taken place just a day after BJP declared Modi as PM candidate.
AAP leader Yogendra Yadav, who is also an expert in trends says Rajan is the most popular person in the country right now. So going by the trend in Social Media, he is the only one who can challenge Modi and get more ‘likes’ than him on Facebook.
In Saturday’s Board meeting, Dr Kumar Vishwas sat next to Mr Raghuram Rajan as he made the announcement, after a meeting of the AAP’s top decision makers. “The AAP’s board has decided that Mr Raghuram Rajan will be our prime ministerial candidate in 2014,” Mr Vishwas said.
Conspicuously absent, was the AAP’s senior leader Arvind Kejriwal, who refused to support the decision, holding out till the end against all attempts to bring him on board. Other dissenters like Shazia Ilmi and Manish Sisodia, grudgingly fell in line. Ms Shazia sat next to Mr Raghuram Rajan and listened intently as he promised an AAP victory next year.
Word that Mr Kejriwal would not attend the meeting came only after other leaders had gathered. In a late RSVP to Kumar Vishwas, he wrote he is “disappointed” with the manner in which Mr Raghuram Rajan has been selected. “Now I think it’s best I don’t attend the meeting,” he said.
From the AAP headquarters, Mr Rajan headed straight to Mr Kejriwal’s residence to seek his support, before leaving for Mumbai.
