Bihar Chief Minister and flip-flop legend Nitish Kumar will portray the character of Petyr Baelish aka Littlefinger in the eighth and concluding season of popular American TV series, Game of Thrones (GOT). Mr Kumar is to replace actor Aiden Gillen, who has been playing the wily character for the last seven seasons.
Confirming the signing of Mr Kumar for the final season in 2018, GOT show creator David Benioff said, “Lord Baelish’s character has been notorious for changing loyalties depending on his personal gains. No doubt, Aiden has played Baelish with élan so far. But, going into the show finale, we have decided to replace him with Nitish Babu whose expertise in changing sides has now become the stuff of folklore. The consummate ease with which he resigned from the post of Chief Minister of Bihar and dumped his ally RJD in the evening before reclaiming the throne of power by joining hands with rival BJP the following day was a deal clincher for us. I mean if he can be so good in real, just imagine how convincing he would appear on reel.”
A nanosecond after this announcement on GOT official website, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted to congratulate Mr Kumar. “I congratulate my friend Nitish Kumar on his selection for the role of Littlefinger in Game of Thrones. Show creators have taken a right decision. The Great War is coming. Only an honest soul like Nitish Ji can save the seven kingdoms from the scourge of corrupt Night King and his army of white walkers,” the PM’s tweet read.
Not everyone was happy with Nitish joining GOT cast, though. RJD supremo Laloo Yadav termed it a conspiracy on the part of the Modi government to harm his family’s interests. “Game of Thrones directors and producers are Modi’s agents. Nitish Kumar ko Modi ke kehne par liya gaya hai. Agar sirf talent ki baat hoti to kya hamra bitwa Tejaswi kisi se kam hai. Usko wo log Jon Snow ka role kyon nahin diya. Akhirkar, Tejaswi ko bhi to kuch nahin aata hai (Nitish Kumar has earned this role on the recommendation of Modi. If it is about talent, does my son Tejaswi lack it? Why didn’t they offer the role of Jon Snow to him? After all, Tejaswi knows nothing as well),” Mr Yadav said while addressing a press conference in Patna
