Kejriwal tags Jaitley in a meme, Jaitley files another defamation suit

06, Sep 2017 By RamnathShenoy

Arun Jaitley today filed another 10 crore defamation suit against Arvind Kejriwal for tagging him in a series of memes. Jaitley and Kejriwal, friends on Facebook for the last 49 days, are already engaged in multiple verbal and legal tussles.

“Tag a friend” memes are now quite popular on Facebook. Kejriwal, though not very active on social media since the Punjab election loss, has been actively tagging a few friends and foes on Facebook for the past few weeks. Jaitley, believed to have “let go” the first few tags, wasn’t happy after Kejriwal tagged him in one particular meme.

The meme that offended Jaitley

Jaitley took offence because he takes bath at least 5 times a day, that too in Ganga water. After Uma Bharti took over the reigns of cleaning up Ganga, he was unable to continue the practice and managed with municipality water. This is also touted as one of the many reasons why she was replace by Gadkari as the minister for Ganga rejuvenation and water resources. However, Jaitley was unsure what he should do about the meme. All hell broke loose when Jaitley woke up to a another Facebook notification: ‘Arvind Kejriwal mentioned you in a comment’

The meme that caused the lawsuit

Jailey, an alumni of SRCC, not only took offence for Kejriwal tagging him as a “lier” but was also disappointed with the spelling of it. Jaitley’s counsel Manik Dogra brought the meme to the court’s notice and filed a fresh defamation suit.

Advocate Rishikesh Kumar, counsel for Kejriwal, urged the court to dismiss the case on the grounds that “everyone lies”. He pointed out that Jaitley had lied that “Acche din aayenge” but acche din had never come for his client as he had lost multiple elections and lawsuits since Modi government came into power.

Arvind Kejriwal was not available to comment or tag on this story. Sources close to him have confirmed that he was watching Baadshaho and writing it’s review.
