Karunanidhi declares Kejriwal as his political heir

DMK president Muthuvel Karunanidhi stunned family members and party cadres alike by announcing that Arvind Kejriwal would be his political successor.

“Neither of my squabbling sons nor my poetess daughter will succeed me as DMK President. It will be Arvind Kejriwal,” declared the 90 year old leader in his concluding speech at his party’s conference in Tiruchy.

“Sorry sons”

Later Karunanidhi explained his shocking decision thus: “All along I thought I was the master of political drama. But Kejriwal has proved that he is better than me in spite of his limited political experience. I am sure he will pull off better political stunts than I have in my long political career.”

In his letter to his party cadres published in ‘Murasoli’ Karunanidhi said that when he saw TV visuals of Kejriwal sleeping on the pavement during his dharna outside Rail Bhawan, he was reminded of how he himself lay stretched on a cot during his three hour fast on the Marina Beach in support of Sri Lankan Tamils. “I had a cooler and a fan besides me along with my two wives during my fast, whereas Kejriwal looked so forlorn wrapped up in that thick blanket. His resignation speech also reminded me of my oft repeated punch dialogue “I have one life, I am ready to sacrifice it for Tamil.”

After Karunanidhi’s shocker his two estranged sons Stalin and Alagiri met at a beach resort near Chennai and were joined by their sister Kanimozhi and discussed on how to counter their father’s announcement.

While there were rumours that the three will launch a new party – possibly named Aam Admi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AADMK), actress Khushboo, considered close to Karunanidhi, welcomed his decision.

“Arvind’s muffler and his cough are new to Tamil politics and I am sure they will appeal to Tamil voters looking for a change,” she remarked.
