Bangalore. Judge Samkumar, who had recently acquitted a political leader in a DA case, defended arithmetic errors in his judgment. When Faking News talked to him on the glaring arithmetic error reported by political parties and the judicial fraternity, Sam – as he would like to be fondly called – said he never makes a mistake with numbers and money.
“See! I never take things lightly when money is involved. I counted and recounted and the money was exactly as per the promise, not anything less – not even a crore less. Now, what these guys saying about me miss out on some Rs.13+ crores? You kidding me? How will I miss out such a high sum?” Sam told Faking News.
When Faking News politely pointed out that the glaring error is on the judgment calculations, Sam was unfazed, “See! I write judgments based on the hard facts that are presented before me. If there is a clerical error, find the Clerk who has committed the error. Tell you something! When it comes to my own money, I never give the money to the clerk for counting. That fellow never is reliable, you know!”
“Now, what are these guys saying about my judgment? I am a judge. I am innocent. Miscalculation of some numbers, here and there? Come on, give me a break! Now, I have to rewrite the entire judgment in some other fashion. I cannot reverse the judgment, you see! Or else, the people of India will lose faith in Judiciary”, Sam elaborated to Faking News.
When asked about his first name, “I know. Sam sounds non-Indian. I had recently changed my first name to Sam. This is to discourage some sycophant followers of the political leader calling for new-born boys to be named after me. As much as I am flattered by the announcement, I would like to avoid this development, as it may throw a bad light on this acquittal script, I mean order. So, I am Sam from now on and I do not have a developmental disability, though my Clerk may actually have some arithmetical disabilities”, Sam concluded to Faking News.
