New Delhi. Union Minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram has reportedly decided to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. It is learnt that Jaswant Singh, who was the finance minister in the previous NDA government was forced out of the party to make way for P Chidambaram to join BJP.
With BJP widely believed to win the polls and expected to form a government at the center, Chidambaram will meet BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi tomorrow and pledge support to him.
This will enable Chidambaram to hold on to the Finance ministry, which he considers his birth right. Adding to this, Chidambaram has requested that he be fielded from his home constituency in Sivaganga. The Congress has earlier announced P Chidambaram’s son as a candidate from his current Lok Sabha seat.
This was part of an elaborate ploy by Chidambaram so that he can take on his son to ensure easy victory in the forthcoming elections.
While BJP spokesperson Nasser Hossain welcomed the proposed move, Congress spokesperson Kanoj Somari called it a bluff , day dream and a desperate attempt by the BJP to save its sinking ship. Chidambaram was not reachable as his phone was switched off.
