Jodhpur. In a queer twist to the much appreciated statement of Rahul Gandhi at an election rally in Rajasthan :“Poori roti khayenge, 100 din kaam karenge, dawaiee lenge aur Congress ko jitayenge” (Eat full roti, work for 100 days, receive free medicines and vote for Congress); the state government employees have demanded that they should not be asked to work for more than 100 days in a year.
Rajasthan state government employees association has submitted a memorandum to the chief minister demanding immediate implementation of the promise made by Congress VP, failing which they would go on an indefinite strike. On their part they have promised that in the forthcoming elections they would certainly vote for the congress party; and if they are assured ‘poori roti and dawaiee” for their family for next five years, they would motivate their wives also to vote for congress.
The common man in Rajasthan seems to have taken this threat very lightly. “Even though the babus come to the office for 265 days in a year, they are mostly busy gossiping and sipping tea in the canteen. So a certified 100 working days per year is a very good proposition” said Subhash, a reputed business man of Jaipur.
The association of unemployed graduates has also supported this demand terming it an innovative way of increasing employment. “For every post the government can now employ three persons, each working for about 100 days. This would be a real game changer and ensure that all the votes of millions of unemployed people in the state go to the congress party” said the president of the association, Mr Berojgaar. ‘While Europe is still slowly moving towards four work- days a week, we would be beating them at their own game by a quantum change to two work- days a week’ he added.
