Christie’s, the world’s biggest auction house has been roped in by the BJP to auction Modi’s rally memorabilia. With intense bidding being witnessed for the Agra chair (on which Modi sat during the Agra rally), there were reports that the auction was getting ugly and the rules were getting broken.
This was when Amit Shah, head of BJP’s Woman Protection wing, decided to rope in an auction house. Amit said that Christie’s had been selected after a competitive bidding process conducted for the various auction houses.
The present engagement is not limited only to the Agra chair. There are other items in the list which would be auctioned. Modi’s rally chappals (73 n.o), rally handkerchiefs (122 n.o.) and rally commodes (10 n.o) are among other items in the list. BJP workers and fans across the world are looking forward to participation in the biggest ever auction of the Christie’s.
Christie’s has been amazed by the unbelievable response. “We have seen people bidding for really old antiques, but never for something used by a person just a few days back. The value proposition is amazing. Just imagine the value of these items a few years down the line. Looking at the response, we believe Modi memorabilia will easily overtake the market value of all paintings of Vincent van Gogh and Pablo Picasso in the first week itself”, said a spokesperson of Christie’s.
Christie’s has also approached Congress to enquire if there was any RG memorabilia for auction. Congress, however, told Christie’s that weren’t aware of any “rallies” of RG.
