BJP’s Babas left disappointed after Modi cabinet rejig

03, Sep 2017 By mj

Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, who turned a multi-millionaire businessman with the assistance of BJP’s special incentives to promote entrepreneurship, on Sunday returned home empty-handed after the BJP led Central Government’s much-awaited cabinet rejig.

After Patanjali Ayurveda Ltd multi-fold rise during Narendra Modi led BJP Government, Ramdev was expected to get a cabinet berth and look after Ministry of Ayush, which many felt would be instrumental for promotion of his swadeshi ayurveda products in the country.

However, the Baba, clad in saffron robes and smirk on his face, was left disappointed after the oath taking ceremony ended at Rashtrapati Bhawan. While earlier Ramdev was seen applauding the BJP leaders inducted in the Modi cabinet during the ceremony, the visibly dejected Baba hurriedly, left the event, covering his face with his saffron robes so as to avoid media attention.

Some media persons, however, mistook a woman in salwar suit with her head covered with a dupatta as Baba Ramdev and jostled to take her byte on the cabinet re-shuffle but soon realized their mistake after seeing the real Baba leaving in his luxury car, Porsche Cayenne.

Before leaving, Ramdev was heard complaining to a few senior Ministers, saying, “Modi ji sab acha hi karte hai, lekin hamare baarein mein bhi thoda sochte toh acha lagta.”

On this, the BJP Ministers were seen assuring Baba that the party will make all out efforts in helping him achieve his aim to overtake country’s richest tycoon, Mukesh Ambani.

Not only Ramdev, but BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj was also very upset after the swearing in ceremony. Considering his controversial statements, Sakshi Maharaj, a prominent face for BJP’s

Hindutva movement was expected to be rewarded with a cabinet berth and to get I&B Ministry.

Party sources said that the BJP was happy with the performance of Sakshi Maharaj and was even ready to ignore his foot-in-mouth moments but the MP failed to deliver in the past one week. After he stirred up a storm with his remarks in support of rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, Sakshi Maharaj did not deliver much and kept quiet for the entire week, which is really unbecoming for someone who has to look after the key portfolio of I & B Ministry, said the BJP sources.

Another outspoken BJP MP, Subramanian Swamy, was also likely to get Law Ministry portfolio but the party removed his name in the last-minute changes in the cabinet list. The decision to remove his name was taken after taking into consideration the large number of PILs that Swamy has filed so far and how these PILs has become a headache for the judicial system and the Law Ministry itself.
