Afzal Guru’s hanging: Kejriwal unhappy, BJP to observe silence

NEW DELHI: The 2001 parliament attack convict, Afzal Guru was hanged in Tihar Central Jail in New Delhi on February 9 at 8AM.

Afzal Guru’s hanging was welcomed by most of the political parties; however, not everyone seemed too happy about it including some members of BJP.

In a press conference, on Saturday, a prominent party leader said, “It’s been 12 years that we knew him (Afzal Guru) and somewhere there was a liking factor for him. Ever since 2004, when political recession hit our party, our sole agenda in any of the Parliament sessions has been Afzal Guru. You might call it affection but instead it is obsession.”

He also added “Not even once they thought (Congress) before hanging Afzal that what will be debating on in the coming Parliament session? We have nothing to debate on now and hence we have decided that we will observe silence in Parliament House in the coming Budget session.”

Aam Aadmi Party’s chief Arvind Kejriwal also seemed to be unhappy with the secret hanging of Afzal. He reacted to the issue by saying, “It’s not Friday and still I am exposing. This whole Afzal Guru hanging is a cheating. In past 12 years, they have dug a tunnel from Tihar to Kashmir. It’s the same way Akbar let Anarkali ‘flee’, but showed everyone that she has been buried alive between walls. In the building of secret tunnel, Delhi govt has spent over Rs 10 crore, however, the papers from the construction company show that the maximum cost would have come upto Rs 6.32 crore. The project was deliberately taken from MCD and given to PWD. Instead of giving Real Fruit juices to the labourers, they were given Frooti as refreshment.”

Congress later issued a joint statement condemning the accusations by both BJP and Arvind Kejriwal. Congress replied by saying, “Chahe jitna bhi karlo, BJP ko khush nahi kar paate (No matter how much we do, can’t keep BJP happy). This is not the right way. They can’t be a good opposition, let alone being a partner in crime. Atleast Modi is happy about the hanging and so are we. As far as Arvind Kejriwal is concerned, let him be on auditing spree. We will see his mathematics later.”

The whole India has swept in winds of strong emotions of happiness and anger. Since Afzal’s hanging happens to be on Saturday, it doesn’t seem to be as celebrated event as Kasab’s hanging.
