DU introduces FYUP in Strikes and Dharna

25, Jun 2014 By aalasyakumar

As the number of applicants increase in Delhi University for conventional undergraduate degree courses, the University announced FYUP in Strikes and Dharna starting this year.

According to a top official, The major source of encouragement comes from the fact that “every academic year the number of days of strikes and protest outnumber the effective working days at DU”. We have the biggest untapped pool of creative strikers of the country in our university, said a third year DU student who has been in the third year of his 3 year undergraduate degree since the past 3 years.

As per sources the course aims to develop special skill sets in that segment of students who otherwise feel alienated during the infinite DU bandhs organized in every academic session. The university has decided to offer Bachelor in Strikes and Dharna (B. SD) with specialization in final year in Indefinite Hunger Strike, Definite Hunger Strike(with indefinite impact), Gherao the VC office, Stage demonstrations, Street processions, Chalo Ramlila Maidan.

While the foundation course aims to develop basic skills like eat secretly during a hunger strike, deduce reason for strike in short VC speeches, go on strike for no reason etc; the core subjects would give much emphasis on practical assignments. The university has state of the art area outside the Faculty of Arts to conduct the classes and Labs are present near tea stalls, union offices and sutta points for proper practical exposure.

While the selection process might be stringent keeping the legacy of stiff cut offs DU has been popular for, sources hint that maximum percentage requirement would be 60% in best of three subjects (including physical education and IP). People with backlogs in 12th and those who have given repeated attempts(unsuccessful) to pass any class during his school life would be given preference over other students with no such experience. Second stage of selection might require the applicant to give a Voice Amplification Test(VAT) to test the range of voice a student has, as compared to the standard protest voice of 40000 Db , a senior official told faking news over a long distance phone call.

The course seems to gain immense popularity as Aam Aadmi Party has offered to give Summer, Winter,Autumn and Spring Internships and even Pre-Placement Offers to first 50 students of every batch.”We are glad that organizations like AAP, leading automobile manufacturers are ready to place our students after the introduction of this course. “This would certainly boost the morale of applicants” leader of a student union at DU told FN over a cup of chai.
