If Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali thought he had waved his troubles goodbye by agreeing to change the name of his latest film to “Golion Ki Rasleela: Ram-Leela” from the vanilla “Ram Leela”, he could not be more mistaken.
Now there are fresh calls asking for a name change – this time for the director himself.
“This director’s name is grossly misleading,” said Nathu Lal, chairman of DVOC NGO (Don’t Vulture Our Culture)
“I went to his house and rang his bell, fully expecting to see Leela. But instead I get to see this bearded man in a black shiny sherwani. This is a travesty. His name is extremely misleading,” Nathu said.
According to latest reports the NGO has suggested that the director change his name to “Goliyon ki rasleela Bhansali.” This time, however, Sanjay is in no mood to capitulate.
“What rubbish is this,” He said. “I am not going to change my name just because someone has some preconceived notions.” “This is like someone complaining about me wearing a sherwani and not a ghaghra, just because my name is Leela.”
Meanwhile, there are fresh troubles brewing up as well. All India Bhojpuri Film association is extremely unhappy with Bhansali over the name change. The association – well known for coming up with interesting names like “Ye nahi ho sakat” (Mission Impossible), “Bola na, ye nahi ho sakat” (Mission Impossible 2) and “Are babua! Ye nahi ho sakat, nahi ho sakat, nahi ho” (Mission Impossible 3) – are furious.
“What does Bhansali mean by coming up with a name like “Goliyon ki rasleela”? Coming up with ridiculous names is our forte.. now what are we supposed to do?” they said in a statement.
