Call it acute business sense or producer’s desperation after signing Anurag Kashyap to make a commercial ‘blockbuster’, the makers of Bombay Velvet have sold the rights of the film to noted filmmaker Kanti Shah. The period drama to be remade has been titled ‘Mumbai Bhel hut’
Bombay Velvet, the Bollywood magnum opus that has received riveting criticism which compares it to previous magnum flopus like Anurag Kashyap’s ‘No Smoking’ and even Ram Gopal Verma’s ‘Ram Gopal Verma ki Aag’. The film rather than breaking up box-office records ended up breaking the producers’ office furniture to recover the monetary losses.
Kanti Shah who is an industry in himself and has in the past made path breaking movies like ‘Gunda’, ‘Loha’, ‘Free Entry’ and ‘Bhoot ke peeche Bhoot’ is to commence shooting in a couple of days and will release the film within a fortnight.
According to the producers of Bombay Velvet, the quick release will help ‘Mumbai Bhel Hut’ use the theatres that had been previously reserved for ‘Bombay Velvet’.
Vikas Behl & Vikramaditya Motwane along with a sulking Anurag Kashyap issued an official statement providing details of the development, “We and our coming 7 generations will be eternally grateful to Kanti Shah who acquiesced to buy the rights of ‘Bombay Velvet’. We will also get into a revenue share deal with him wherein the film will be distributed across multiple screens and the impending revenue to be shared across all. This will not only help us cover the losses on the film but we will all make handsome profits.”
Kanti Shah has already finalized the star cast for the film with wife Sapna enacting the role of Anushka Sharma and Amit Pachori, the role of Ranbir Kapoor. “For the role of Karan Johar, I’ve booked Bobby Darling. He was a bit skeptical at first as he is a bigger star but then I did a 4 film deal with him, and he is not on board”, remarked Kanti Shah. When asked about the movie, Kanti Shah said, “The movie will be close to Mumbai unlike ‘Bombay Velvet’. As the title says the movie will now revolve around a Bhel house named ‘Mumbai Bhel Hut’ which my lead actor owns. Sapna is now Rose Marie Marlo, who is a bar girl cum waitress in the Bhel House and Bobby Darling essays the role of Kamini Ben Chos, who runs a unisex salon. I’ve always been inspired by good cinema and with ‘Mumbai Bhel Hut’, the entire nation will watch what Ketan Shah can do.”
