The extremely popular reality TV show Bigg Boss has reportedly roped in Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and former railway minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav as the host for its upcoming season. The controversial show had a number of high profile celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan hosting it. With Lalu Prasad Yadav as its host, this is likely to be the first time an Indian political leader hosts a reality show on TV.
Lalu Prasad Yadav, one of the most popular politicians in India, has already appeared in a cameo role for a Hindi movie which was actually titled after his name. Commenting on this unique choice of host, a Colors TV representative stated – “We wanted to increase the popularity of the show to newer audiences and Lalu Prasad Yadav has a pan-India appeal. Research showed us that Lalu Prasadji is popular among south Indian audiences as well. We are also going to model the Bigg Boss house as a cattle shed with real cows and buffaloes residing in it with the contestants.” Media experts believe that Bigg Boss is going to shatter all TRP records with this choice of host.
The implications of this decision may also have an effect on Lalu Prasad’s political image, which political analysts believe needed a serious re-branding ever since RJD has been losing out on votes in Bihar. Nitish Kumar, current Chief Minister of Bihar and Lalu Prasad Yadav’s political opponent stated that this was indeed a cheap political gimmick by the RJD chief and will not affect the poll results in the state. “Lalu Prasad Yadav is only doing this to earn cartloads of money as he can no longer earn money out of scams” , alleged the Chief Minister.
Lalu Prasad Yadav however seemed genuinely excited to host the show and gave an entirely different reason as to why he has accepted this role. Speaking on the phone with this correspondent he said, “Jab se meri missus Rabri Devi Bihar ki Mukhya mantri bani, logon ka ye kehna tha ke hamare house me woh boss ban gayi thi. Isliye ab hum ye dikhana chahte hai ki sirf hamare house ke nahi, balki Bihar aur poore desh ka big boss hum hi hai!” (Ever since my wife became the Chief Minister of Bihar, people have been saying that she is the real boss of my house. That’s why, I have now decided to show that I am not only the big boss of my house, but also of Bihar and the entire country)
Salman Khan, the host of the previous edition declined to comment on the issue but a confidential source revealed this – “Bhai minted loads of money over the past couple of years and he was not regularly hosting the show during the last season anyway. So it makes no sense for him to continue hosting this show.”
The announcement also created a social media frenzy with Lalu Prasad Yadav actually trending on top of the worldwide trending topics on Twitter for 15 minutes before the site crashed due to heavy traffic. Colors TV is reportedly also working on updating its site to accommodate heavy traffic. Former Bigg Boss contestant and self proclaimed Twitter star Kamaal R Khan is supposedly camping outside Lalu Prasad Yadav’s residence in Bihar to request an entry into the show. He also promised to feature Lalu Prasad Yadav in his next movie as the lead actor according to his twitter entries.
The show is said to be featuring controversial spiritual guru Swami Nithyananda and there are unconfirmed rumors that Poonam Pandey might be part of the show. With Lalu Prasad Yadav hosting it, Bigg Boss 6 is surely to go down in the annals of Indian television history.
