Mumbai. In a dramatic turn of events soon after the Supreme Court reinstated the law criminalizing gay sex, one of the biggest director, producer, writer (owner of production house ‘Dharma Productions’) and the host of biggest show on the television ‘Koffee with Karan’, “Mr. Karan Johar” held a press conference at his home in Mumbai where he announced his retirement from making movies and starting an NGO named “Dostana Ashram” with a motto ‘It’s all about helping the real needy one’s.’
Interestingly Chris ‘Gay’le was chosen to be the brand ambassador. When asked about the choice KJo smilingly answered, “It’s all in the name, isn’t it. Jokes apart ‘Gay’le is a powerful character and I just love when he hits those Sixes. Coming back to the point he is an ideal choice for the brand because he just loves men, Oops I mean’t the entire mankind and he wants to contribute to the great cause as much as I want to.”
Answering the question, “What made you take a sudden decision on quitting film making and that too coincidentally just a day after SC’s announcement on reinstating the law criminalizing gay sex ? “, Johar replied out loud and yet maintained a controlled facial expression, “I respect the decision of Supreme Court though I am not on a 100% agreement on it. That said there is no correlation between my decision and courts decision. The reason I am not continuing is that I don’t have any stories to tell to the audience now. After Dostana 2 which by far is my most ambitious project, I think I don’t have anything new to offer to people. I think that’s my milestone in film making. I cannot make anything bigger than ‘Dostana 2’. Though the decision of SC might affect the collections of the movie”, he added smilingly.
Johar emphasised, “The NGO would be one of its own kind in the country where they would be keeping needy men (Only men) from an age group of 18 to 40 who are suffering midlife crisis and not been able to think Straight in life”.
He added further that the center would be also have facilities for rehabilitation. “I would be personally visiting each man in the ashram and I would stay with them to understand their problems, I would make sure that they are changed humans with a broad open mind after they come out from the ashram to live a better life in the outer world”.
On being asked about plans of marriage, KJo smilingly answered, “It’s a tough question, Honestly I haven’t found the right person yet, When I find him/her, I would announce it to the world”.
Chris Gayle couldn’t attend the conference as he is still recovering from knee injury that happened to him during last W Indies tour to India . However we managed to have a word with to him over the phone and this was his take on being selected as the brand ambassador of ‘Dostana Ashram’, “In the slot – so I can hit it. [Laughs] I don’t know where I’d pitch it, to be honest. I’d be nervous if I was bowling to myself. I’d hope I wasn’t in a cranky mood.”
When asked “Are you excited to visit India may be after the kiwi tour to visit the Ashram, Aren’t you a little nervous to have such a big responsibility?”
Gayle answered “You do feel the tension, but what makes it easier for me is the day before the game, you analyse the bowlers you’re going to be coming up against. In your mind, you picture yourself and how you’re going to play those bowlers before you go to bed. Then, when you get out there, you might feel a couple of butterflies – but once you get past those first couple of balls, you gain in confidence and can get the upper hand.”
On asking about KJo, this was what Chris had as an answer, “I don’t want too much grey hair. There’s too much stress already. “Young guys might [stress me out] so let’s see what happens.”
We tried reaching Shahrukh khan over the phone and asked him on what are his views on this surprise decision taken by KJo, to which King Khan replied angrily, “Don’t underestimate the power of a common man!” as he hung up the phone.
Salman khan had an amusing take on this decision, “Well, What can I say? But yes the rumours are true, I have really saved myself for my future wife”.
When we approached Aamir Khan and asked him if the decision by KJo seemed right to him, Aamir said, “[Aa ahm ahhahh ] Bande Hain Hum Uske, Hum Pe Kiska Zor, Ummedon Ke Suraj, Nikle Charon Aur, Irade Hain Fauladi, Himmati Har Kadam, Apne Haathon Kismat Likhne, Aaj Chale Hain Hum. This year will end with a Dhoom”
