According to unconfirmed reports, the restrictions on the contents aired on Fashion TV may be removed as soon as the new government comes into power after 20th May.
The current government had placed severe restrictions against the channel in 2007, after it received several complaints against a programme called Midnight Hot,in which semi-nude or skimpily clad models were shown catwalking on the ramp.
A recent sting operation had revealed that the people who had complained, had done so because their local cable operator was not providing the channel and not because the content shown was obscene. “It is unfair, if we cannot view it, nobody should be able to” some people were heard saying on the hidden camera.
According to advertising guru Maneesh Kumar Raeela, the channel viewership in India had dropped sharply from a whopping 70% to a mere 7% after the censorship curbs were levied on it. “This could be a major factor in the downfall of the current government. People are already frustrated with poor condition of roads, rising inflation and other issues. Midnight Hot was used to provide them with a much needed break and an opportunity to temporarily forget their problems” he added.
“This is going to be a great relief for us.After studying hard all day we need a break. Midnight Hot gives us a rejuvenating experience” said Rahul an excited college student who did not wish to give his full name.
